SUMMARY:Dan Simmons - Black Hills
DESCRIPTION:
Hugo-winner Dan Simmons became a staff favorite with The Terror and
Drood\, and he’s back with another thriller\, Black Hills. The novel is at
once a historical fiction and a sci fi novel\, which is not that easy to do
well\, but Simmons once again delivers a novel full of suspense and
complexities that keep you reading long into the night. As General Custer
lies dying on the battlefield\, his ghost enters the body of Paha Sapa\, a
young Sioux warrior. Custer’s ghost speaks to Paha Sapa for the rest of his
life\, and Simmons takes us through the American West with these two
diverging characters. BookPeople highly recommends this event\, tonight at
7PM.

SUMMARY:Stephanie Saldana - The Bread of Angels
DESCRIPTION:
In 2004\, Stephanie Saldaña traveled to Damascus\, Syria\, on a
Fulbright fellowship to study the Muslim Jesus. She was also fleeing a
broken heart. It was not an ideal time to be an American in the Middle East\,
so she traveled to an ancient Christian monastery carved into the desert
cliffs. In that beautiful\, austere setting\, she confronted her wavering
faith and met Frederic\, a young French novice monk. As they set out to
explore the mysteries entwining Christianity and Islam\, Stephanie slowly
realized that she had found God again – and that she was in love with
Frederic. A romantic and sweeping memoir\, tonight at 7PM.

SUMMARY:EVENT OF THE MONTH - Alison Macor - Chainsaws\, Slackers\, and Spy Kids
DESCRIPTION:
During the 1990s\, Austin achieved &quot\;overnight&quot\; success and celebrity
chronicles Austin's colorful movie history with revealing interviews from
Richard Linklater\, Robert Rodriguez\, Mike Judge\, Quentin Tarantino\, Matthew
McConaughey\, George Lucas\, and more. Alison Macor explores how Austin has
become a proving ground for contemporary independent cinema. BookPeople
DESCRIPTION:
This is the happiest story in the world with the saddest ending\,&quot\;
writes Elizabeth McCracken in her powerful\, inspiring memoir. A
prize-winning\, successful novelist in her 30s\, McCracken was happy to be an
itinerant writer and self-proclaimed spinster. But suddenly she fell in
love\, got married\, and two years ago was living in a remote part of France\,
working on her novel\, and waiting for the birth of her first child. This
book is about what happened next. In her ninth month of pregnancy\, she
learned that her baby boy had died. How do you deal with and recover from
this kind of loss? Of course you don't--but you do go on. This sad yet
joyful memoir is truly beautifully written. Tonight at 7PM.
