Start: 10:30 am
Where would we be without Dr. Seuss? He put a wonderful, colorful spin on children's books and rhymes that we all know by heart. To celebrate what would be his 106th birthday, we are having a spectacularly Seusstastical storytime. This morning at 10:30 AM.
Start: 7:00 pm
You are cordially invited to join Merrilee and Sharee the first
Wednesday of every month at 7PM to explore and discuss works of historical
fiction. Because, as Oscar Wilde said, "Any fool can make history, but it
takes a genius to write it." This month's book is Churchill’s Triumph by
Michael Dobbs.
Start: 7:30 pm
BookPeople loves Dave Eggers! Not only has he written and edited
some amazing books, but he is the founder and editor of McSweeney’s
publishing house. He also started 826 Valencia, a non-profit writing and
tutoring center for kids that has been adopted across the country. Eggers
will be at BookPeople tonight to talk about and read from his latest books,
The Wild Things and Zeitoun. The Wild Things is based on Maurice Sendak’s
Where the Wild Things Are, and Eggers also wrote the screenplay for the
recent movie. Zeitoun is the true story of Abdulrahman Zeitoun in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Kicking off the event today will be Austin
resident (and former BookPerson) Bill Cotter reading from his recently
published McSweeney’s book Fever Chart. A jam-packed event full of great
books!
Wristbands for the signing line will go out starting at 4PM. To get
a wristband, you must have a copy of Zeitoun or The Wild Things purchased
from BookPeople.
