Austen in Austin!

Put on your hats and gloves and join us this afternoon for tea and scones while we celebrate Jane Austen along with three authors who have been inspired by her timeless work.

We'll welcome three terrific authors this afternoon, all of whom have books inspired by the one and only Jane Austen.

Alyssa Goodnight is the author of Austentatious. What happens when an eighteenth century literary darling magically pops up in the weirdest city in Texas? Magic and weird collide in this story of Nicola James, a left-brainer with a Jane Austen obsession and a carefully finessed life plan. A plan that doesn’t include an enchanted journal or an interfering fairy godmother, who just might be the spirit of Jane Austen herself.

Patrice Sarath is the author of The Unexpected Miss Bennett. Poor Mary Bennet's elder sisters are beautiful and kind, or full of fire and spirit. Her younger sisters, both very silly, are popular wherever they go. Mary likes to read books, play music, and investigate the human experience. Everyone believes her destined to die an unloved spinster. Then the opportunity presents itself for her to embark on a new life, where she can begin to grow new friendships, realize her own strengths … and discover just how much a woman of understanding and fortitude can shine in the eyes of good man.

Jennifer Ziegler is the author of Sass and Serendipity. For Daphne, the glass is always half full, a situation is better managed with a dab of lip gloss, and the boy of her dreams—the one she's read about in all of her novels—is waiting for her just around the corner. For Gabby, nothing ever works out positively; wearing any form of makeup is a waste of study time, and boys will only leave you heartbroken. But when the richest boy in town befriends Gabby, and Daphne starts to hang out more and more with her best and only friend, Mule, Gabby is forced to confront the emotional barriers she has put up to stop the hurting. And for once, her sassiness may fall prey to her definition of stupidity.

In order to have anything signed at a BookPeople event, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. If you purchase your book from BookPeople in advance of the event, please save your receipt and present it at the event.

How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.
