How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

In this entertaining and thought-provoking book, noted historian and musician Bobby Bridger explores the impact of Native American culture on the American psyche. Where the Tall Grass Grows examines the impact of indigenous American mythology on contemporary identity and the development of modern popular entertainment, particularly the Hollywood film industry.

The prophecies of the Lakota holy man Black Elk are woven into a chronicle of American Indians in the American cultural psyche from the era of Buffalo Bill, Sitting Bull, and the Wild West through the creation of the Western, John Wayne, Dances with Wolves, Avatar, and modern mythmaking. In so doing, Bridger provides a highly original look at American history and culture from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day.

Bobby Bridger is renowned for A Ballad of the West, his epic trilogy about the American West from the era of mountain man Jim Bridger to the closing of the frontier. Bridger has had a career in show business that spans the rockabilly to "Music City, USA" era in Nashville, the cosmic cowboy scene in Austin, the flowering of folk music, and even Broadway theater.

In order to have anything signed at a BookPeople event, you must purchase your copy of the event book from BookPeople. If you purchase your book from BookPeople in advance, please save your receipt and present it at the event.
