How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

DAN BOEHL - Kings of the F**cking Sea & AMELIA GRAY - Museum of the Weird

  • Adult Event
06/24/2011 7:00 pm

Poet DAN BOEHL and fiction writer AMELIA GRAY will speak about and sign their works, Boehl's collection of poetry Kings of the F**cking Sea and Gray's short story collection, Museum of the Weird.

Two fantastic local authors bring their unique work to BookPeople tonight.  Dan Boehl’s poetry collection, Kings of the F**king Sea, unfolds to reveal a world that of artists, poets, merchants, sailors, and soldiers who break themselves against the sea and the vast unknowable opportunity it represents. As one poem goes, “The world invents, the sea discloses, and irony isn’t a necessary tool for successful men. On the sea, as in art, some make it and others die nameless, destitute of love, forgotten.”

Amelia Gray’s Museum of the Weird is the winner of FC2’s American Book Review/Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize.  A monogrammed cube appears in your town. Your landlord cheats you out of first place in the annual Christmas decorating contest. These situations and more reveal the wondrous play and surreal humor that make up the stories in her stunning story collection.
