How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

DANIEL WOODRELL in conversation with CRAIG JOHNSON & FRANK BILL about 'The Outlaw Album'

  • Adult Event
10/22/2011 7:00 pm

MysteryPeople
is proud to present
DANIEL WOODRELL,
the author of Winter's Bone,
in conversation
with bestselling author
CRAIG JOHNSON

about Woodrell's
new short story collection,
The Outlaw Album.

Special guest FRANK BILL, author of Crimes of Southern Indiana, will also appear at this event.

Five of Daniel Woodrell's eight published novels were selected as New York Times Notable Books of the Year. Tomato Red won the PEN West Award for the Novel in 1999. We're absolutely beside ourselves with excitement about this event. The Bayou Trilogy, a collection of Woodrell's novellas, is one of the top sellers in MysteryPeople. This is going to be a great evening with one of the most popular authors among mystery writers themselves.

Craig Johnson is one of our favorite authors, and we're thrilled that he'll be able to join us tonight to lead the conversation with Daniel Woodrell. They're good buddies, and Craig's a dear friend of BookPeople, so this is going to be one fun and unforgettable evening, please join us.

In The Outlaw Album, Daniel Woodrell lends uncanny logic to harsh, even criminal behavior in a wrenching collection of stories. Desperation-both material and psychological--motivates his characters. A husband cruelly avenges the killing of his wife's pet; an injured rapist is cared for by a young girl, until she reaches her breaking point; a disturbed veteran of Iraq is murdered for his erratic behavior; an outsider's house is set on fire by an angry neighbor.

There is also the tenderness and loyalty of the vulnerable in these stories--between spouses, parents and children, siblings, and comrades in arms-which brings the troubled, sorely tested cast of characters to vivid, relatable life.
