The Guys YA Tour
|JOHN COREY WHALEY|| JASON REYNOLDS|| BRENDAN KIELY|
|YA fans, join us tonight as three awesome authors of brand new Young Adult novels are here to read from their work. John Corey Whaley, whose debut novel Where Things Come Back won the 2012 Printz Award, will be here with his new novel about a boy who loses his head - literally - Noggin. Brooklyn writer Jason Reynolds will read from his debut about a brother and sister living in Bed-Stuy, When I Was Greatest. Bredan Kiely will be here from Greenwich Village with his new book about a boy facing the challenges of a fractured family and drug addiction, The Gospel of Winter.|
All About NOGGIN: Travis Coates has a good head...on someone else's shoulders. A touching, hilarious, and wholly original coming-of-age story from John Corey Whaley, author of the Printz and Morris Award-winning "Where Things Come Back." The in between part is still a little fuzzy, but Travis can tell you that, at some point or another, his head got chopped off and shoved into a freezer in Denver, Colorado. Five years later, it was reattached to some other guy's body, and well, here he is. Despite all logic, he's still sixteen, but everything and everyone around him has changed. That includes his bedroom, his parents, his best friend, and his girlfriend. Or maybe she's not his girlfriend anymore? That's a bit fuzzy too.
JOHN COREY WHALEY grew up in Louisiana. His debut novel, Where Things Come Back, was the 2012 winner of the Michael L. Printz and the William C. Morris Awards. You can learn more about him at JohnCoreyWhaley.com and follow him on Twitter: @Corey_Whaley.
All About WHEN I WAS GREATEST: Ali lives in Bed-Stuy, a Brooklyn neighborhood known for guns and drugs, but he and his sister, Jazz, and their neighbors, Needles and Noodles, stay out of trouble until they go to the wrong party, where one gets badly hurt and another leaves with a target on his back.
JASON REYNOLDS is crazy. About stories. After earning a BA in English from The University of Maryland, College Park, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where you can often find him walking the four blocks from the train to his apartment talking to himself. Well, not really talking to himself, but just repeating character names and plot lines he thought of on the train, over and over again, because he’s afraid he’ll forget it all before he gets home. When I Was the Greatest is his debut novel.
All About THE GOSPEL OF WINTER: Managing the challenges of his fractured family by taking Adderall, sneaking drinks, and confiding in an abusive priest, Aidan finds support from new friends including a crush, a wild girl, and a swim-team captain with his own secrets.
BRENDAN KIELY received an MFA in creative writing from The City College of New York. His writing has appeared in Fiction, Guernica, The AWP Writer’s Chronicle, and other publications. Originally from the Boston area, he now teaches at an independent high school and lives with his wife in Greenwich Village.
