How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

Things About Me.

Are you one of the millions of people who has fallen in love with Marcel the Shell? What? You don't know who Marcel is??!! Well, take a look at this video:

Is that adorable or what? Now the tiny shell with shoes and a big heart is transitioning from online sensation to picture book character, and we're thrilled to have Jenny Slate, the voice of Marcel, and Dean Fleischer-Camp, director and animator of the short film with over 11 million hits, here at BookPeople to present the new book! In Marcel's voice.

From wearing a lentil as a hat to hang-gliding on a Dorito, Marcel is able to find magic in the everyday. He may be small, but he knows he has a lot of good qualities. He may not be able to lift anything by himself, but when he needs help, he calls upon his family. He may never be able own a real dog . . . but he has a pretty awesome imagination.

Jenny Slate, the voice of Marcel, is an alum of Saturday Night Live and plays Stella on HBO's Bored to Death.

Dean Fleischer-Camp is a writer, director, and animator whose work has screened at film festivals around the world.

In order to have anything signed at a BookPeople event, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. If you purchase your book from BookPeople in advance of the event, please bring your receipt and present it at the event.

Thank you for supporting Marcel, Jenny, Dean, and your local independent bookstore!
