How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

LISA FAIN - The Homesick Texan Cookbook

Food Writer
LISA FAIN
will speak and sign
The Homesick Texan Cookbook.

This event is curated by our good friends at

Nothing goes better with Texas food than Texas beer, which is why we'll have plenty of our favorite brews on hand from Saint Arnold Brewing Company
(for those 21+ - please bring an ID.)

We're big fans of the Homesick Texan blog and have been eagerly anticipating this first cookbook from Lisa Fain featuring over 100 recipes straight from the Lone Star State, giving everyone a true taste of Texas!

When Lisa, a seventh-generation Texan, moved to New York City, she missed the big sky, the bluebonnets in spring, Friday night football, and her family’s farm. But most of all, she missed the foods she’d grown up with. After a fruitless search for tastes of Texas in New York City, Fain took matters into her own hands. She headed into the kitchen to cook for her friends the Tex-Mex, the chili, and the country comfort dishes that reminded her of home. In 2006, Fain started the blog Homesick Texan to share Texan food with fellow expatriates. Now, in her long-awaited first cookbook, Fain brings the comfort of Texan home cooking to you.

When she’s not on the hunt for chile peppers, Lisa Fain writes and photographs the popular food blog Homesick Texan, which has been named one of the top fifty food blogs in the world by the Times of London and the Best Regional Food Blog by Saveur. It has also received recognition from the New York Times, Bon Appétit, and Gourmet. Lisa’s writing has appeared in Saveur and Edible Austin and on SeriousEats.com, and her photographs have been exhibited worldwide, with two in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress. An active member of Foodways Texas and the Southern Foodways Alliance, Lisa is also a certified barbecue judge.
