SANDY RANKIN
& SPIKE GILLESPIE

speaking & signing
Pearl Street Memories (Rankin)
& The Maine Event (Gillespie)

Local authors Sandy Rankin and Spike Gillespie join forces tonight to deliver a double-header reading from their respective new books. Sandy will read from Pearl Street Memories, and Spike will read from The Maine Event, and this reading marks the world premiere of both books. Event starts at 7pm. Refreshments will be served.

Sandy Rankin is a critical care nurse who has been working in trauma for over thirty years. She has published countless medical articles in the US and internationally. Pearl Street Memories is her first adventure in fiction. This collection is based on real life memories that have followed her—sometimes hauntingly, sometimes joyfully-- throughout her life.

Spike Gillespie
is the critically acclaimed author of many books and countless magazine articles. Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times, The Washington Post, National Geographic Traveler, Texas Monthly, The Dallas Morning News, and other publications. In 2006, Austin Chronicle readers voted her Best Author in Austin. Spike also provides commentary for KUT. The Maine Event is her seventh book, a real-life travel adventure that culminates in a rush of events including a moose spotting, a full bladder, an empty wallet, and an escalating argument at the Canadian border.

In order to have anything signed at a BookPeople event, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. If you purchase your copy of the book from BookPeople in advance of the event, please save your receipt and present it at the event.

Thank you for supporting Sandra Rankin, Spike Gillespie and your local independent bookstore!

How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.
