How Our Events Work

BookPeople is proud to host over 300 events every year. Our events are free and open to the public, unless otherwise stated.

To get a book signed at one of our events, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. By purchasing a book from BookPeople, you are not only supporting a local, independent business, but you are also showing publishers that they should continue sending authors to BookPeople. Think of it this way: you wouldn't bring your own beer to a bar, would you?

For events where we anticipate large crowds, wristbands may be required in order to join the signing line. Occasionally we may also ticket events. In both cases, information as to when wristbands/tickets are available will be found on that event's specific page on our website.

300 Bite Size Works of Fiction.

In 2009, Sean Hill, founder of Austin's own The Hideout Theater, came up with a brilliant project that combined his love of technology with his love of writing: he created the Twitter feed @VeryShortStory, where he writes 140 character stories. The feed quickly gather followers, and now he's gathered the best of his Very Short Stories into this colleciton.

Celebrating brevity, precision, and the art of subtle communication, author Sean Hill has crafted hundreds of engaging, evocative stories that conjure an entire novel in a sentence or two. A child who sets fires in hopes of meeting his firefighter father. A lonely woman, heading home from another bad blind date, who asks her cabbie out for a drink. The compelling stories in this one-of-a-kind collection are never longer than 140 characters but pack the emotional punch and storytelling genius of lengthy works of fiction.

Sean Hill lives in Austin. When not writing fiction, he provides copywriting and internet marketing consulting for clients. He can often be found performing improv comedy around town with his friends.
