Welcome to BookPeople

BookPeople, Texas’ largest independent bookstore, has been a staple in Austin’s Community of Books since 1970. From Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, "Book People" are a group of people dedicated to preserving books in a world where the written word is forbidden and books are burned.

BookPeople has been voted the Best Bookstore in Austin for over 20 years and was named Publisher’s Weekly’s bookstore of the year in 2005. Known for well-read booksellers that can recommend books for readers of any age, BookPeople has two stories full of books, locally curated gifts and a coffee shop to round out the perfect indie bookstore experience.

BookPeople is the 2020 winner of the Women’s National Book Association’s Pannell Award where the jury lauded BookPeople’s "astonishing contribution to Austin, their outreach, their nonstop energy." BookPeople is a proud member of the Austin Independent Business Alliance and the American Booksellers Association.
