Belinda Acosta – Sisters, Strangers and Starting Over

Beatriz Sánchez-Milligan is shocked when her 14-year-old niece, Celeste, stumbles into her 25th wedding anniversary party. Celeste reveals that her mother, Perla, has died. Beatriz immediately takes Celeste in. Undaunted, Beatriz begins to plan a quinceañera for Celeste; but the party planning doesn't comfort Celeste, nor does it ease Beatriz's pain. She feels guilty for losing contact with Perla, and that guilt grows deeper when she meets Josie Mendoza, a journalist who reveals that Perla may have been murdered. The second novel in the Quinceanera Club series by Austinite Belinda Acosta, Sisters, Strangers, and Starting Over is a wonderful look at family, and what we do to make it work.

Stranger Than Fiction Book Club

Reading fiction to escape reality is a great way to unwind, but exploring reality can sometimes be even more rewarding. These books aren’t about fictional characters or locales. They don’t happen in a far away land or make believe place. They are stories of our world, of our journeys, of reality and our perception of it. We’ll be reading books that range from botany to black holes and, trust me, it’s stranger than fiction. This month’s book is The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.
