Age Your Way
Losing control of our lives is something we all fear. While many of us try to exercise, eat right and make good, healthy decisions; we are never fully prepared for when the aging process takes its toll. That's where Debbie Pearson is here to help! With over forty years as a practicing nurse, Debbie has turned her experience of providing care into a detailed, effective guide to help you and your family prepare for aging or sudden injury. Covering a variety topics, from health to financial and legal care, Age Your Way is an essential resource that will successfully navigate you through the unavoidable. So join us tonight as Debbie Pearson will be here to discuss her new book, Age Your Way.
ABOUT AGE YOUR WAY
Control. We spend our whole lives trying to build systems so that we can have more control, more say-so in our lives. We love those systems. We talk about them, and study them, and take advice from experts about them. We build financial firewalls so we can control what happens with our money. We go to the gym, and we try to eat right so that we can have at least some control over our health and well-being. That’s all well and good, but the evidence is in and it says that in spite of our best efforts, most of us are wholly unprepared for the eventuality that we are all likely to face at one time or another: How to maintain control when aging or injury renders us unable to effectively communicate our wishes. In that scenario, if we are unprepared, we lose control. We cede it to strangers or perhaps family members who are left to guess at what we would like to do going forward. Moreover, they are left clueless regarding legal directives and financial resources to assist at this difficult time. It’s unfair to those people and entirely avoidable, says author Debbie Pearson in her new book Age Your Way. Along with the book, there’s a companion organizer that will allow us to plan and document for virtually every eventuality that we might face.
ABOUT DEBBIE PEARSON
Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Debbie grew up with three siblings, a stay at home mom and an entrepreneurial father who built and grew a successful men’s clothing business that he absolutely loved. Growing up, Debbie saw firsthand what it looked like to be using one’s talents and gifts to their fullest, and, though it took a while, she eventually discovered hers.
At the age of 27, and with three small children, she needed to go work outside the home. “I went out and got a book about jobs,” she says. “And I read that a job as a nurse had a lot of long-term security. I didn’t know any nurses, and I had never aspired to be a nurse, but that made a lot of sense to me, so I enrolled in the three-year nurses training program at Brackenridge Hospital – the hospital I was born in. At age 30 I completed the course study and went to work. From the very first minute in the program, I knew that I had found my life’s work, my heartbeat, and over the past 40 years it’s never died.” Debbie completed a B.S. in nursing five years later at The University of Texas in Austin. Her ability to be a good listener, to be unflappable, and her deep caring for others all merged into a series of events that would impact her community and beyond.
