Lessons of Labor: One Woman's Self-Discovery Through Birth and Motherhood

Join us this evening as Julia Aziz shares her new memoir, an intimate telling of birth stories of her three children and miscarriage that explores the question, what if instead of trying to avoid the pain and uncertainty of labor, we asked what we could learn from it? In telling these stories, Julia shows us how giving birth can be one of motherhood’s (and life’s) greatest teachers.

Julia S. Aziz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and an ordained interfaith minister. Before having children, Julia worked as a counselor for children, adults, couples, and families. She also worked with dying patients and their loved ones as a hospice chaplain. In recent years, she facilitated a personal growth group for teens, a “Soul of Service” retreat for counselors, and a mindfulness group for new mothers. Julia currently works with graduate students at an integrative medicine school in addition to caring for her three children. She continues to lead private classes and silent retreats exploring the bigger questions of self and purpose.
