BookPeople Presents

We love our local authors here at BookPeople and tonight we're excited to welcome two of the best to share their new work. Britney King will be here with her new novel, Bedrock. Michael Juge will be here with his new novel, Here We Are Now: A 90s Austin Story. Come out for a wonderful night of literary comradery & fun.

BRITNEY KING is the author of two novels, Bedrock and Breaking Bedrock, with plans to release a third and fourth in 2014-2015. She founded a local network for women in 2012, Austin Women's Network, which has grown to almost 900 members. She is married with five children.

Bedrock is the story of Addison Greyer, a happily married mother of three, who decides to re-enter the workforce, she never once considers that taking a job might unravel everything she thinks to be true about her life—that it would cause her to look deep within and confront fears she didn’t know existed. Like many women, Addison is defined in terms of marriage and motherhood, until she suddenly finds her life turned upside down by her husband’s decision to take a job thousands of miles away. When her tough-as-nails boss offers her an opportunity she can’t refuse, Addie is forced to make difficult choices. Those choices take her further and further out of the carefully crafted fairytale life she has created and lead her into an unknown world where things are anything but black and white: a world where she learns that desire is not only dangerous but deadly.

MICHAEL JUGE grew up in New Orleans, bumming around aimlessly until he collided into sobriety. Upon receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies at Loyola University in New Orleans, Michael moved to Austin, Texas to find himself. When he found himself to be a courier and barista, he retreated to grad school and obtained his Master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Texas at Austin. After being saturated with weapons-grade coffee and postmodern cultural theory, Michael went on to something completely different—to serve as a Special Agent and later as an Intelligence Research Specialist in the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Diplomatic Security, the law enforcement arm of the Foreign Service. Michael currently resides in Texas with his beautiful wife and two kids.

The novel Here We Are Now: A 90s Austin Story, is set in the heyday of the dotcom boom. Chris Jung moves to Austin to find himself. Unfortunately, between his useless philosophy degree and lackluster high-tech skills, he finds himself to be a bike messenger for startups that are throwing weekly beer bashes, talking about going IPO and spending wads of capital though they can’t quite say exactly what it is they do.  When Chris is assigned to run deliveries for an obscure tech firm, he learns that the fate of all existence hangs in the balance and is recruited to assist in its salvation.

SANDRA KRISTEN MOORE is originally from the Chicago area, but is now blessed to call Austin home.  She is an author, imperfect wife, and a chaotic mother of four whose journey with God has brought forth great challenges and joys.   She began this journey in 2005 and began writing about it in 2007 when she realized the significant way her life was beginning to change through her growing relationship with God.

From the intro to Nakedness: "I write so you can see that I am really an unfaithful wife, a crazed and frustrated mother of four, a disrespectful daughter, a forgetful friend, a judgmental sister in Christ, but still a child of God. Maybe you can't relate to any of them, but have the same deep desire as I did, to find out how to quench that yearning for something more that burns inside of you. This book has tales of all of that."

In order to have anything signed at a BookPeople event, a copy of the event book must be purchased from BookPeople. If you purchase your book from BookPeople in advance of the event, please save your receipt and present it at the event.
