ABOUT LONE STARS
Clay is a football coach’s dream. When he zips across the field, arms outstretched, waiting for the ball to sail into his hands, there’s no denying his passion for the game. As a wide receiver, the football field feels like a second home to Clay, and Coach Walker, a former star player for the Dallas Cowboys, is more like a second father.
But as the football season kicks off, Clay begins to notice some odd behavior from his coach—lapses in his memory and strange mood swings. The conclusion is painful, but obvious: Coach Walker is showing side effects of the many concussions he sustained throughout his playing career. What makes it all the more heartbreaking is that this is the season that Coach is going to be honored in a ceremony by the Cowboys on national TV.
As Clay’s season wears on it becomes clear that the real victory will be to help his idol walk onto that famous star logo in the middle of Cowboys Field. Along the way, Clay must question his own devotion to the game he has always cherished playing more than anything else in life.
