Nasty Women Project:
Voices from the Resistance

Welcome to the new America. We are faced with the daily onslaught of the erosion of civil liberties as well as norms of basic civility. The government is waging war on low-income women, among others, through regressive policy decisions including the federal defunding of Planned Parenthood. Nasty Women around the country felt collectively that this was the time to tell our personal stories and find the common humanity that connects us all. The first volume of the Nasty Women Project anthology series, supporting Planned Parenthood, goes on sale beginning March 1, 2017.

Each Nasty Woman featured in Volume One of the Nasty Women Project answered the call to tell the story of her participation in the Resistance. We supported, encouraged, and inspired one another, especially when the story was emotionally difficult for the author. We gave each other strength, stoked each other’s fires, and listened with true passion and compassion to each other’s tales of survival in the face of overwhelming odds. In less than three months, the first volume of this phenomenal project came together.

The Nasty Women Project is donating 100% of the proceeds from book sales to Planned Parenthood, an organization currently at risk for defunding by Congress. Politico reported in November 2016 that eliminating Planned Parenthood’s federal funding would mean low-income women on Medicaid wouldn’t be able to access cancer screenings, contraceptive information, or reproductive healthcare services. Concerned Nasty Women must fill the financial gap for the women whose lives depend on Planned Parenthood’s services.

Indeed, many civil liberties are now under attack. To that end, the Nasty Women Project will be publishing future volumes of stories! Each new book of stories about the Feminine Resistance will financially support other groups actively fighting for human rights.

We are the Women of the Resistance

We are every woman you have ever met, and every woman you haven’t. Our stories are of struggle, but also of strength; of fear, but also of courage. We know despair but we never lose hope. We are extraordinary women living in extraordinary times.
