MysteryPeople Presents

featuring authors

Happening at Opal Divine's
3601 S. Congress

The only thing most crime fiction fans love as much as books is drinking, so it only makes sense that someone would combine both. Started in Philadelphia a few years, Noir At The Bar has made its way across the country from Philadelphia to LA. MysteryPeople gives it an Austin spin at Opal Divine's on South Congress.

This month, we'll have four of the hippest hard boiled authors on the scene reading from and discussing their work: Brad Park, Andrew Hilbert, C.J. Howell, and Jesse Sublett. Come for the crime fiction, stay for a drink or two and kick back with another rowdy night of noir, Austin style.

Brad Parks is a former journalist and author of the Carter Ross mystery series, starring an investigative reporter working in Newark. Parks is a two-time winner of the Shamus award and has been lauded for his realistic portrayal of the newsroom. He will be speaking and signing his sixth Carter Ross novel, The Fraud.

Andrew Hilbert is a writer living in Austin, TX. His poems and short stories have been published regularly around the world since 2009. He is the author of the novella, Death Thing, published by Double Life Press. He is the founder of The Weekly Weird Monthly, an Austin based publisher. You can keep up with all he's up to at and follow him on twitter @AHILBERT3000

C.J. Howell is a native of Colorado and spent many years bartending and writing in mountain towns before moving to Arizona. He has published short stories in various literary magazines and his debut novel, THE LAST OF THE SMOKING BARTENDERS, has received critical acclaim including a starred review by Booklist Magazine. A habitual traveller, he once hitchhiked from Boulder, Colorado to Tierra del Fuego, and has several times driven cars of questionable reliability to his home away from home in Panajachel, Guatemala. For more information, go to his website; friend him on facebook; follow him on twitter; or contact him at

Jesse Sublett is an author, musician and artist from Austin, Texas. His publications include Rock Critic Murders, Never the Same Again, Broke, Not Broken and has contributed to Texas Monthly, Texas Observer, New York Times, Texas Tribune and the Austin Chronicle. A member of the Texas Institute of Letters, his seminal Austin rock band, the Skunks was inducted in the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Jesse lives in Austin with his wife, Lois Richwine.
