Happening at Opal Divine's
3601 S. Congress

The only thing most crime fiction fans love as much as books is drinking, so it only makes sense that someone would combine both. Started in Philadelphia a few years, Noir At The Bar has made its way across the country from Philadelphia to LA. MysteryPeople gives it an Austin spin at Opal Divine's on South Congress.

This month, we'll have four of the hippest hard boiled authors on the scene: John Schulian, Joe Lansdale, George Wier and Jesse SublettCome for the crime fiction, stay for a drink or two and kick back with another rowdy night of noir, Austin style.

John Schulian is the author of three collections of his sports writing – Writers’ Fighters & Other Sweet Scientists, Twilight of the Long-ball Gods and Sometimes They Even Shook Your Hand – and the editor of two Library of America anthologies, At the Fights (with George Kimball) and Football. His short fiction has appeared on the websites Thuglit and The Classic and in the Prague Revue.
He has also been a sports commentator for NPR’s Weekend Edition, a special contributor to Sports Illustrated, and a familiar byline in such publications as GQ, Inside Sports, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and the Oxford American.

Lansdale is the author of more than three dozen novels, including The ThicketEdge of Dark WaterThe Bottoms, and A Fine Dark Line. He has received the British Fantasy Award, the American Mystery Award, the Edgar Award, the Grinzane Cavour Prize for Literature, and nine Bram Stoker Awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award.

George Wier is a Native Texan living with his wife, Sallie, in Austin who writes Texas-based crime and mystery novels. His first published work was "Duckweed", a contribution to Lone Star Noir, Akashic Books, 2010. He is the author of the Bill Travis mystery series.

Jesse Sublett is an author, musician and artist from Austin, Texas. His publications include Rock Critic Murders, Never the Same Again, Broke, Not Broken and has contributed to Texas Monthly, Texas Observer, New York Times, Texas Tribune and the Austin Chronicle. A member of the Texas Institute of Letters, his seminal Austin rock band, the Skunks was inducted in the Austin Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Jesse lives in Austin with his wife, Lois Richwine. His blog can be found at
