MysteryPeople presents

The Necessary Murder of Nonie Blake, Shaker and Young Americans

One of the great things about crime fiction is that there's always up and coming talent to discover. Tonight, you can meet three of our favorite writers. Terry Shames continues her series featuring Texas police chief Samuel Craddock with The Necessary Murder of Nonie Blake. Josh Stallings takes us to the glam rock seventies with his heist novel, Young Americans. Acclaimed screenwriter and director Scott Frank, known for such films as Out Of Sight and A Walk Among The Tombstones, is here with his debut novel, Shaker, in which a hit man finds unwanted fame during L. A.'s largest Earthquake. All these authors have more than earned their crime fiction chops. Join us for a great discussion about their books, their writing lives and the genre.

Terry Shames is the author of the Samuel Craddock mysteries A Killing at Cotton HillThe Last Death of Jack Harbin and A Deadly Affair at Bobtail Ridge. She is the coeditor of Fire in the Hills, a book of stories, poems, and photographs about the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire, and is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. She grew up in Texas and continues to be fascinated by the convoluted loyalties and betrayals of the small town where her grandfather was the mayor. Terry now lives in Northern California with her husband, two terriers and a regal cat.

Scott Frank began his career writing such films as Little Man Tate and Dead Again. His screenplay adaptation for Get Shorty was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a Writers Guild Award for adapted screenplay. Frank’s adaptation Out of Sight received an Academy Award nomination and won a Writers Guild Award. Frank has also written the screenplays for Heaven’s Prisoners, Minority Report, The Interpreter, Marley & Me, and The Wolverine. He wrote and made his directorial debut in 2007 with The Lookout, which won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. Most recently, Frank adapted and directed A Walk Among the Tombstones. Shaker is his first novel.

Josh Stallings is the author of the Anthony Award nominated memoir, All The Wild Children. And the multiple award winning Moses McGuire crime novels, Beautiful, Naked & Dead, Out There Bad and One More Body. His latest book, Young Americans, a 70’s Glam Rock Disco Heist novel has be getting great notice from reviewers, readers and fellow writers. He has been a club bouncer, a petty thief, a father, a husband, a bad actor and a good friend. He knocks out the bills as an award winning motion picture trailer editor. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, two dogs and a cat named Riddle.
